What to do in and around Tønder
Tønder
Tønder is a beautiful, old market town which can boast a fantastic museum.
There are many good shopping possibilities including nice specialty shops and arts and craft shops.
In November and December the well-known Christmas Market takes place.
Black Sun, Grey Sun and White Sun
The area is rich in bird life. The phenomenon of “Black Sun” takes place in the spring and autumn and is familiar to most, but a guided tour to “Grey Sun” or “White Sun” leading to enormous flocks of wild geese or swans as well as other wading birds is also exciting. The marsh lands around Tønder are thrilling for anyone who likes birds.
Fishing
A ticket bought at the tourist office gives one fishing rights in the rivers in the area. Here one can also experience exceptional nature.
South Jutland’s History
The Danish/German border has been changed many times during the last centuries. So if one is interested in history there are many possibilities to experience the dramatic wars and conflicts between Denmark and Germany.
Shopping in Flensburg
Shopping in Flensburg is very popular. Flensburg is a picturesque city with old courtyards lined with shops and restaurants as well as a long pedestrian street. The harbor is particularly attractive and a slender along the “Rote Strasse” with its specialty shops is a favorite.
